Designed for Sergeant level and below, including non-sworn officers, this 10-week (10 total days) advanced leadership program will provide emerging leaders with the tools they need to succeed.

Originally developed by the Denver Police Department and the University of Denver, this program is now open to all Colorado Law Enforcement Agencies. Each law enforcement-specific cohort provides education and career enhancing, high-quality, evidence-based training offering an innovative approach to transforming public safety education and promoting ethical leadership, and action-based learning.

Program Faculty include University of Denver faculty, academic policing scholars, senior police professionals, and business leaders.

Course Highlights:
  • Specialized modules addressing the future of policing
  • Practical leadership exercises and case studies
  • Interactive, project management workshops
  • Academic-led discussions on evidence-based policing strategies

Application Process

CIRSA will be sponsoring 15 officers to attend this course. We can only sponsor one officer per department and given the limited number of available seats, the requesting department or officer will have to complete the linked application at www.haventgottenthisfar.com.

Applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis and no agency is guaranteed a spot in the course. All applications are due no later than Wednesday, April 30th, 2025.

Commitment Requirements

The department Chief must commit in writing to allow the accepted officer to attend all course dates and complete the full program during the assigned cohort. This commitment must exist regardless of any other agency duties. Failure to do so will result in an expectation for the municipality to reimburse CIRSA the full course amount of $1500.00/officer. Verified personal emergencies will be the only exceptions considered.

See What Everyone Is Saying

“The DPD PPLI provides much more than any typical leadership course – you can look forward to learning about yourself, others, new and innovative law enforcement leadership strategies that are useful immediately, and all from instructors and facilitators that are in our field as well as academia.”

“As an Officer/Cpl/Sgt, you will gain a reset on policing and build a foundation of respect for all aspects of LE and those that support the mission of LE. You will gain insight into what being a leader, both formally and informally, looks like, and you will gain direction and clarity in your career.”

“Open to all Sworn and Professional staff who want to better their understanding of successful Law Enforcement leadership programming. Learn how to better your leadership skills set and collaborate with teammates on leadership efforts.”

“This was a great training for current and future leaders. I really like all the “science” behind leadership and policing. The wealth of knowledge that sits in the room is VERY valuable and not only did I learn from the coursework I also learned from everyone in the room. All topics were relatable. There are not many courses I would take twice – but I would have done this twice because I know that I did not digest all the information I would have liked.”
